Mentos + Diet Coke Experiment

So we've got a little scientist. Harrison's always telling us amazing facts about each species of dinosaur, explaining mating habits of lady bugs, showing us how cyclones work etc etc etc . . . so he's wanted to do the mentos & diet coke explosion experiment for some time. So for family home evening a couple weeks ago - we did it. Amazing how the soda instantaneously fizzes out of the bottle once the mento is dropped in. We don't know how people have gotten the lids on in order for them to explode off - the soda was fizzing too much too quickly. But the kids were more than satisfied with our experiment - and happy to see that green apple mentos work just as well as any other flavor. Dan took a drink after the fizzing stopped and I worried that his stomach would explode. Not to fear - he saw a Mythbusters that gave him all confidence in his safety. The other great thing that came out of this was that Dan loved the taste of the green apple in the coke - we may have a pitch for the coca cola company!!!
